History
Higgin Lloyd & Partners Pty Ltd
was established in Port Moresby as Enginneers and Architects
by the original Directors, Mr E.S.P Higgin and Mr D.H.Lloyd.
At that time the Directors had been engaged in their
respective professions ( Architect & Engineer ) for
sixteen years.
Following Mr Lloyd's death in 1969,
the company deleted Engineering works from their consultancy
services.
In 1964 Mr Dennis Bradney joined
the Australian Commonwealth Department of Works in Port
Moresby in their Architectural design section. While having
conventional Architectural design involvement in that
Department, he was also specifically involved in the major
landscaping projects of Military Barracks throughout Papua
New Guinea, Rouna No. 2 Hydro Electric Scheme and other
institutional sites.
He joined the Port Moresby office
of Higgin Lloyd & Partners in 1969 and then in 1971
transferred to Lae to manage the company's branch
there.
In 1968 the company ahd established
an office in Lae, and later in 1973 an office was opened in
Arawa, North Solomons Province, specifically to service the
needs of Buogainville Copper Limited and peripheral
business. The Arawa office was maintained until 1976 when
the initial Buougainville building works slowed and the Lae
office, under the management of Mr Dennis Bradney, then
continued to service this client.
In 1977, by Mr Bradney taking a
parcel of shares from Mr Higgin on his departure from Papua
New Guinea, the two commenced the Architectural Practice of
Bradney, Higgin & Associates Pty Limited operating in
Lae independently of Higgin Lloyd & Partners.
Bradney, Higgin & Associates
Pty Limited maintained a 25% shareholding in the Port
Moresby Practice of Higgin Lloyd & Partners until
1986.
In 1993, National Architects Naka
Songake and John Ronnie, both graduates of the Papua New
Guinea University of Technology, purchased shares in
Bradney, Higgin & Associates Pty Limited with the
intention of the eventual full transfer of company ownership
from Mr Bradney by 2000AD.
With their inclusion in the
ownership of the company the de-personalised name of
"Designscope Architects"
was registered.
